Bi-Weekly Update

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Hey Everyone,

With school, magic, and more school, it's sometimes really hard to get on the website to update it. Starting two weeks from today, I will begin attempting to do Bi-Weekly video updates. I am hoping that by doing a video (which doesn't need to be carefully written and proof-read multiple times) I will be able to create an easier to follow blog of what I am up to magic-wise.

Also, I am starting to compile some video testimonials. Once I have enough I'll begin work editing a promotional video to put onto the font page of the website. It should be done within the next couple of months.

I recently did a three-week trial run with the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Brockton, MA- 3 Tuesday nights totaling 8 hours of performing for a couple hundred kids and adults. The audience was impressed, the management happy, and my outlook good. I should hear back from the management in about a week to see if I will begin working there more permanently.

About 4 weeks ago was the Holiday Banquet of the Boston Assembly #29 of the Society of Young Magicians. As President I had to emcee and help run the event; it was a difficult and highly educating experience. There were many special guests and performers and over 110 people in attendance! The food was great, the gift-swap fun, the performances exciting, and it was an overall wonderful time.

There's been a lot more, but that's all I have time to write about now. See you all in my next VIDEO Bi-Weekly Update,

Happy New Year!

Friday, January 1, 2010

Hey Everyone,

I hope that you all had a safe and happy New Year. I want to thank you all for helping 2009 be a magical year for me filled with personal growth, and growth as a business. I have been fortunate enough to perform in some incredible places this year- Smokey Bones, on TV, and appear on the front page of the newspaper. My magic has gotten better, my routines have become more solid, and my business is booming. All of this, because of YOU.

As the door to 2009 has come to a close, 2010 is opening up and unraveling before our eyes. I hope that 2010 brings you success and happiness, just as you have brought success and happiness to me.

HAPPY NEW YEAR,
~David Rysin

Smokey Bones

Friday, December 11, 2009

Hey everyone,

I would just like to let you know that, effective immediately, I will no longer be performing at Smokey Bones in Stoughton...at least for the time being. The previous general manager was let go, and until the new GM can review the budget there will be no more entertainment. I will possibly begin renegotiation with them in mid-January.

However, negotiations with another restaurant are currently underway and I will keep you posted with details as they become finalized.

Wonderful Night Performing Close-Up!

Monday, December 7, 2009

Hey Everyone,

I had a great night today performing close-up magic for the Chamber of Commerce banquet (for those of you who do not know, I am the official Stoughton Chamber of Commerce magician). I met some really wonderful people and everyone who had the opportunity to see some magic loved it!

There were numerous notable things that happened that I'd like to share with all of you.
  1. There is a possibility that I will be working at another restaurant on top of Smokey Bones in the coming weeks. I'll definitely let you all know about that ASAP : )
  2. There may be some more shows for the Sinai Hospital in the works. If any of them are open to the patients and you happen to know of one, I encourage you to come in with them and watch the show!
  3. Christmas, New Years, Hannukah, etc.. Parties are booking up FAST. Do not procrastinate contacting me because I may not be available by the time you do (and I would hate to disappoint you like that!)
Finally, I had the pleasure of listening to some of my fellow graduated friends from Stoughton High School perform some beautiful music. If you ever need a Jazz band to play at your events, The Jazz Instant Messengers are a perfect band to take your party to the next level of elegance (and if you have a magic show too, it will make it the most elegant party of the year). You can contact the band at nickelvend@comcast.net

I'll keep you all posted with events and news as I find out about them.
Magically,
~David

Bi-Weekly Update

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Hey Everyone,

Magic has been great the past few weeks. I had the pleasure of performing three shows in one week for the first time during the Thanksgiving break and it was a blast! All three shows had easy to work with clients and wonderful audiences to whom I was able to bring some fun and happiness to; the shows were perfect examples of why I love my job : )

Last week I also had a ton of fun attending a magician's lecture/workshop with one of "The Great's"- Michael Ammar. He taught some really amazing things and it was nice to see him again for the first time in two years. I actually learned two new tricks I could do with my iPhone that night so I've now turned my cellphone into a 5 minute magic routine!

Last Saturday at Ray's Magic Art Studio and Mini Museum of Magic (the magic shop where I've worked since April '08) was one of the more interesting days I've had there. Ray- the owner- needed to take something out of one of the display cases that he has in his museum because he was giving it as a gift to a friend of his. Well, it took me and a friend of Ray's over half an hour to get it out of the case and then close the case back up. The experience really opened my eyes to the amount of work this man must have put into creating his museum and magic shop!

There have also been a ton of non-magic related things going on lately. The business and marketing after-school program I am a co-leader of is finally starting to gain some momentum. We just finished up a Harbor Candle (www.harborcandlecompany.com) all natural Soy Candle fundraiser. I haven't tallied up everyone's sales yet, but I somehow managed to sell 17 candles in 2 days going door to door. The DECA competitions are only a short while away, and so I'm getting very excited for those too. The international competition will take place in Louisville, KY this year.

Also, I've come to the realization that installing a car radio is not common sense. I bought a new radio for my car and spent over an hour and a half trying to get the old one out with no success. There wasn't even anything online to help me learn how to do it! Luckily, Best Buy has Auto services that do it for you so I'm debating buying the parts at Auto Zone and having Best Buy install it for me.

That's all for now, I'm off to pack my stuff for a big Bar-Mitzvah party I'm doing Saturday!

Bi-Weekly Update

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Hey everyone,

It's been a pretty busy few weeks. First of all, I would like to congratulate Bailey of Canton, MA in winning a free show during the silent auction at the Hansen School a few days ago. I look forward to doing a show for you, Bailey!

Halloween at Smokey Bones: Everyone should go to Smokey Bones whenever they have the chance to experience the great food, an awesome atmosphere, and stunning magic. However, if you're going specifically for the magic, I will not be at Smokey Bones this Saturday, October 31st. I'll be back the following Saturday, 11/7/09

The Holidays are coming up and I'm already starting to book shows for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is always a busy time for performers, and our schedules tend to fill up, fast! So if you're interested in a show for either of the Religious Holidays in December, Thanksgiving, or New Years, it is important that you get in contact with me ASAP. And because this is such a busy time of the year, you will benefit from me performing so many shows! All shows booked for the holiday season will receive a 15% discount.

I had the pleasure of seeing 2 great magic shows last week. One, which may or may not happen again, was hosted by the Knights of Columbus in Canton, MA. The Rhode Island Society of Magicians performed, and it was wondering seeing (for the first time) many of my friends performing their acts. A week later, at the Canton Community Theater at the Shaws plaza right next to Bertucci's, I saw one of the four magic shows that they were hosting. It was great, and headliner Ian Rich did a wonderful job. Chances are that they will be hosting more magic shows throughout the year and I'll let you know about them when they do.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to do magic? I have previously taught magic to students Solomon Schecter, Camp West Woods, and am currently teaching a workshop at SYM meetings. Now, it's your chance to learn how. Amaze your friends, break the ice with strangers, and learn how to get over your fears of approaching people. I am now offering 8 and 12 session lessons in the art of magic for everyone. You'll learn how to do everything just mentioned by learning some incredible magic tricks, and creating patter and a routine to make them entertaining. E-mail me or call for more information.

Bi-Weekly Update (Created 10/5/09, problems publishing)

Monday, October 5, 2009

Hey Everyone,

It's been a great few weeks! Although, they weren't too eventful.

I'm back at Smokey Bones! I am once again going table to table performing close-up magic for whoever is interested while they're waiting for their food. Last Saturday was my first day back and it felt great performing there again. I had a lot of fun, and made some new friends; what more can anyone ask for?

This Friday will be my first Society of American Magicians meeting as President. I'm really looking forward to giving back to the magic community for all that it's helped me with!

New Business Cards- I've finally received them and they look great! : ) *Although my general uploading problems have been fixed, I still can't get the pictures to upload for some reason. I'll be working on fixing this ASAP.*

Magically,
~David Rysin
